I ate all the peas in the bowl and they were super sweet. Of course I counted along the way and there were 25 pods in the bowl for a total of 148 peas.
The closest guess was 144 peas by Jackie Kersten.
Congratulations, Jackie! You just won a free cookbook by yours truly. (Jackie sent us her photo and says she’s from Citrus Heights, California and is a Rec Aide at an elementary school.)
Thanks, everyone, for playing… let’s do it again.

It’s summer! There are so many reasons I like summer, especially for all the healthy fresh fruit that’s available, like peaches and watermelon and strawberries. It’s also a great time to get fresh vegetables, especially green peas, which are super sweet this time of year. Green peas are high in folic acid, iron, vitamin K for bones, and they have anti-inflammatory properties. My favorite way to eat them is raw, right out of the shell. And sometimes I wash them, eat the peas out of the shell and then peel away the inside membrane and then eat the shell! Is that a Polish thing or does anyone else do that? Oh, I almost forgot… my contest. Guess how many little round peas are inside the pods in this 6-inch bowl. Remember, it’s not how many pea-pods, but how many peas are INSIDE the pods (say that five times in a row!). Take a guess and whoever comes closest will win a free copy of my cookbook.
One guess per person ~ Winner will be posted Monday morning. Good luck!!
If you like trying new recipes like I do, check out my Pinterest page. I’ve been searching for healthy recipes there for some time and so far I have collected over 2,000 recipes that I want to try. It’s crazy! When will I find the time? If you’re not a user I can tell you that a lot of people say it’s addicting. I always thought it was just a collection of favorite photos but it turns out there are thousands of recipes there but you do have to search for the healthy ones. That’s what I’ve been doing so even though I want everyone to try my own healthy recipes, I’m also happy to give other food bloggers the credit for their own healthy foods and meals. But it has to be healthy. If anything starts off with a stick of butter, I pass. Wait ’til you see how many good ones I’ve found! I have 45 different boards with over 2,000 recipes. Some of my favorite boards are: My Own Healthy Recipes (of course!), Baking Without Butter, Pizza, Spicy Hot Stuff, Polish Food, Great Salads, Healthier Mac & Cheese, Healthy Wraps & Tacos, and there’s even one called “Ten Foot Pole” and you know what that means – stay away! So except for that board, everything else is definitely worth a try. If you find a recipe you like and try it, let me know – my bucket list is too looooong!! – Jenny Jones
It’s so much fun going to ethnic food shops and there’s an Italian deli in Burbank where I found this beautiful organic artisan linguini from Puglia, Italy. It’s colored with beetroot, turmeric, spinach, and paprika.
The dough is hand-crafted, extruded through bronze dyes and then air dried. I couldn’t bring myself to cover up this beautiful pasta with a red sauce so I decided to use a simple olive oil & garlic mix so you could still see the stunning design and colors, not to mention what an awesome and healthy topping this is for any pasta. It’s a simple recipe which I’ll be posting next week. Oh… I almost forgot… the contest:
GUESS HOW LONG IT WOULD MEASURE IF YOU PLACED THESE NOODLES END TO END (DRY, BEFORE COOKING). The package contained 8.8 ounces and the noodles were almost an inch wide before cooking.
~ Whoever comes closest, whether over or under, wins my cookbook. ~ The winner will be posted Tuesday. Good luck!

We have a tie! There were 98 walnuts in the bowl and two guesses have tied. One was five over and one was five under so two people have won a free cookbook. The first winner with his guess of 103 is…. Josh! Josh was only five over the total. And the second winner with her guess of 93 is… Rhonda! She was only five under the total. Congratulations, Josh and Rhonda. Thanks to everyone for playing and we’ll do it again soon. 🙂
UPDATE: Rhonda will be giving her new cookbook to one of her sisters who are in this photo that we just received. Rhonda (in the tank top) is single and lives in Georgia. She is a cat lover and has 3 of her own.
It turns out she has a lot in common with our previous winner, Marlis, who had attended tapings of my show and works at Walmart. Rhonda has also been to my talk show tapings and she also works at Walmart. How about that!
If you’d like to win a free copy of my first cookbook (over 80 recipes), here’s my second contest.
Just guess how many walnuts are in the bowl below…
Here’s some helpful info:
~ The rim of the bowl measures 4 1/2 inches. ~ I only used whole and half pieces, nothing smaller. ~ Both whole pieces and half pieces will each count as one. ~ Whoever comes closest, whether over or under, wins. ~ The winner will be posted Friday. Good luck!
There were 271 almonds in the jar and she guessed 272! Only off by one!
Congratulations to Marlis on winning my cookbook and thanks to everyone for playing. This was fun. 🙂 We’ll do it again soon.
UPDATE: Marlis just sent us her photo and wrote to say, “I am so excited to have won this contest. I love Jenny and was in her audience 2 or 3 times here in Chicago. I can’t wait to check out the recipes in the book. I am from Aurora, Il, I work in Lawn and Garden at a Walmart. I love to garden and our pests are not rabbits, ours are Ground Hogs, bit fat ones!
I am involved with a the Fox Valley Marine Corps League, we support our brave men and women who protect our rights. I also support Operation Welcome You Home, Inc. IL.
If I sent a Welcome Home flag do you think Jenny would sign it? It would go to a young man or woman who is coming home from active duty overseas..”
