Salmon Patties
There’s always canned salmon in my pantry for a quick and healthy meal. Salmon protects your heart and promotes beautiful skin and hair. The bones in canned salmon are soft and mash-able so leave them in to add calcium but I remove most of the skin. Any toxins in fish are stored in the skin. - Jenny Jones
Ingredients:
- one 7.5 ounce can red salmon, drained
- 1/4 cup finely diced onion
- 1/4 cup finely diced red bell pepper
- 1 Tablespoon chopped fresh parsley
- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup fresh whole wheat bread crumbs (not dried)
- 1 teaspoon olive oil
Instructions:
- Place drained salmon in a bowl and mash with a fork.
- Mix with onion, red pepper, parsley, egg, and crumbs.
- Shape gently into four patties.
- Heat oil in a pan over medium heat and cook patties for about 5 minutes until browned and cooked through, turning once.
Note: Make fresh bread crumbs by processing a slice of whole wheat bread, crust removed, in a food processor.

I thought I recognized that voice, that smile…and I wasn’t wrong. I came for the cinnamon rolls…you had some great little tricks…I don’t do the dental floss my bakers knife gets the job done!
Your salmon patty recipe was very easy & tasty. Even my picky husband ate them and loved them
This is the single best recipe for salmon I have ever eaten let alone made 10 star recipe here! I’ve made it like 5 times!
The only reason I don’t eat it more is because my husband is not fond of seafood.
Thanks for sharing it with us!
Tried the salmon patties .I have never been a fish lover but these are delicious . This is my go to for a heart healthy meal . Cant wait for more recipes .
How can I Air Fry these? Also, If I want to use Pork rinds instead of bread how much would I use? These look absolutely Fabulous!
Hey Nanmama, Did you try these in the air fryer?
What kind of frying pan is the one pictured in your recipe for salmon patties? Thank you!
Love this recipe! Every time I make it I get raves. I used sourdough bread crumbs this time. Fabulous!
Great tasting, healthy recipe. Thanks.
I am so glad to have found someone who makes Salmon Patties..You also make all my favorite dishes.Salmon patties is one of them.I will make tomorrow .Thanks for the recipes!
Jenny you’re better than any chef and cook I’ve seen on the cooking channel. You’re the queen of them all! 😘😘
Instead of going to a cookbook for a meal idea I always check her site for the perfect meal.
Jenny you’re better than any chef and cook I’ve seen on the cooking channel. You’re the queen of them all! 😘😘
Amen! Absolutely <3 her!!!
WOW!!!!!! xoxoxox
Thanks Patty,
Since my wife off-loaded all the family cooking tasks to me, I have been searching for a quick and not fall apart salmon patty recipe. This one sounds great and I love the bread chopping tip! I think my kids and wife will love it.
Detlef
Can I use already cooked salmon & also fresh salmon? Thanks.
Canned salmon is already cooked so you must use cooked salmon for this recipe.
My Mom often used leftover mashed potatoes instead of the bread crumbs
wow sounds like a great idea.
I love your recipes and videos! You explain things so clearly and are always so cheerful. So many videos on YouTube don’t offer the full printed recipe. This can be so frustrating. Thanks for all you do.
I use cracker crumbs also. My grandmother made these often and I loved to go to her house when she did.
Sandy, I use crackers when i make salmon patties. In fact, I was thinking about making them today.
I ate 2 last night for dinner. Chopped the other 2 over a salad today for lunch. These are even fab, cold on a salad!
I made the Salmon Patties tonight…absolutely DeLISH! I’m a Weight Watcher lifestyle and these fit into my plan deliciously!
I made these 3 different ways … Salmon, tuna & crab. DELICIOUS each way!!
This cook is very simple, her cooking techniques are easy – even young adolescents can follow!
I admire anyone not afraid to share their skills with others; thank you.
Ms. Hernandez
I don’t think people are afraid to share their comments; just think they are selfish! And… I probably would be one of those people because I don’t like people copying from me in any shape, form or fashion unless I’m being paid. That’s how unique anything I make would be!!!
And feeling as you do about sharing, I’m sure you pay everyone including Jenny, if you use their recipes. Only fair.
I happen to believe, IT IS A COMPLIMENT if your recipe is asked for. Why wouldn’t anyone not want to share a great recipe or idea with others? I guess you are very insecure .
These salmon Patties were delicious, just like Grandma’s.
I made the topping of yogurt, bread and butter pickles and horseradish with a little garlic salt Wonderful!!
Thanks Jenny!!
I make them with mashed potatoes.
I tried instant potatoes and they tuned out well
Wow! Only four steps.
Wow! Only four steps. Amazing! Keep it up!
ThankU for a most delicious, easy and attractive way to prepare a tasty, healthy meal. Your video was perfect!!
I’ll check your other recipes for sure!!
i forgot in previous comment to tell i made a black bean salad ad cucumber salad with the salmon cakes. the colors were gorgeous together and it
tasted fantastic
i made these salmon cakes with fresh salmon and mashed it. it was delicious
I am on a diet and cannot eat bread. In the salmon patty recipe, does anyone know what I can substitute for the bread crumbs?
I use mashed up cracklins for all bread crumbs. I’m on a Keto Diet.
I use oatmeal either whole or ground in mini blender
My husband it diabetic
Did you use the same amount of oats as the bread?
I keep broken wild rice in my home. It cooks up faster than whole wild rice and I love the texture. It is finer. I wonder if you could use that. I don’t know if you should just throw it into the mixture as is first or cook it first. I think I would try cooking the rice first or cooking it until almost done before adding to the mixture.
My mom made these with rice all the time. I like the texture of the rice over the bread crumbs.
I use Panko crumbs
I was going to ask about using panko bread crumbs. Do you mix them in or do you pat them on the outside of patty?
Italian panko cumbs mostly I did tried instant potatoes and they were good
I use Old bay seasoning
You can use crushed up crackers or mashed potatoes hope this helps.
Eleanor I am on my husband fb page lol.
These salmon patties are absolutely awesome and they are the quickest and easiest thing to make! Thanks Jenny!
Love them dill dip and a side with a baked sweet potato butter and maple syrup
Fantastic! Made these last night because of “stay at home” order and trying to use only/mostly pantry items. I didn’t have red pepper, so used minced celery and added cajun spices (onion and garlic powders, thyme, cayenne and smoked paprika). Didn’t need any toppings, and were crispy on the outside and just moist enough on the inside. I used a tall can of wild salmon so doubled the bread and egg. Made the mix in advance and fried them up at last minute. Served with coleslaw. Will make again, even after the quarantine is lifted! Thanks, Jenny!
I make these often and follow Jenny’s recipe exactly except that instead of bread crumbs I use 4-5 large wheat crackers which I always keep in the pantry and just crumble into the mix. More flavor. Sometimes I add a can of tuna to the mix to make more and we eat them again the next day for lunch! I also top them with a sauce of plain yogurt, chopped bread butter pickles and horse radish. YUM!
Tried this for first time tonight and had to leave a comment. We loved it, was very simple to make and 4 children ages 6~10 also gobbled them up and commented how “pretty” it was. (Also served with applesauce). Thanks, Jen keep up the good work and your Sam and Patty joke was devine! 🙂
My mom always breaded her patties with bread crumbs or cornmeal before frying…try it sometime. Good recipe. Thanks.
I loved this recipe….thank you, but I switched it up a bit.
Cooked some frozen basa fillets with a splash of white wine, lemon juice & old bay seasoning, then mixed it up with bread crumbs, pepper, parsley, garlic, dehydrated onions and some parmesan cheese. Pan fried….It was delicious!!! Great comfort food.
Omg! Just made these for lunch and they were delicious. I added a little diced celery and some fresh ground lemon pepper seasoning then served on a bed of jalapeño ranch dressing with some crackers. Wish I had taken a photo but they were too good to wait for that… yum!
These are delicious Jenny! It was my first time ever making salmon patties. I laugh because I once bought an expensive can of salmon, opened it up and it freaked out because it had bones and skin. I tossed it because it looked horrible! I thought it was an mistake. Now, thanks to you I know. For this recipe I actually some frozen salmon filets I had in my freezer. I didn’t want to waste them but I didn’t care for the brand to eat them plain. So I cook them in the pressure cooker and then made the patties. Loved how simple and clean the ingredients are. I served mine with a dill pickle dipping sauce and a side of roasted asparagus. The best! I will definitely make them again. Thank you.
Loved your recipe for salmon cakes !
Made dutch baby pancake with peaches and salmon patties. Was a hit. Just found you after so many years. Its your voice that got me again, before i realized why i knew you. Such a pleasure to see you again.
These are delicious and oh so easy. I also make something similar using canned tuna instead of salmon. The recipe is very forgiving. Like others, I use whatever fresh veggies I have available — minced onion, minced celery, minced carrot, any color bell pepper,
Sometimes I make a Tziki-type sauce to put on top: No measuring — mix together sour cream OR plain, non-fat yogurt, finely chopped, peeled cucumber, and a large sprinkling of dried dill. Fresh dill is wonderful in this also. Mix together and put a dollop on top of each patty. This sauce is good on any baked or broiled fish.
These are really good. We have enjoyed them so much. Thanks loads. We have tried so many of your recipes and now make them over and over. Thanks again.
Hi Jenny, I want to make this recipe of your salmon patty, however, my husband is allergic to eggs, what can I substitute for the egg
You can sub either yogurt or sour cream for the egg
Another option for an egg replacement is flax seed mixed with water. It becomes a gel texture so it binds nicely. Check Google for measurements. ?
Mixing 1 teaspoon (7 grams) of baking soda with 1 tablespoon (15 grams) of vinegar can replace one egg in most recipes.
Jenny CAN COOK fer sure!!!
These salmon patties were WONderful…THANK YOU SO MUCH…?
My mom used to cook this for our family when I was home, I’ve cooked this for my family and now my boys cook for their families. I also have used canned Mackeral. It is a lot cheaper than Salman and doesn’t have such a fish scent. I prefer the RED SALMON which is a treat
Encouraged by everyone’s comments, I attempted the salmon burgers tonight. However, I couldn’t get them to stay in patty form (second egg needed perhaps?) so I ended up just scrambling them in the pan, the way I do with hamburger meat when I’m too lazy to make actual burgers, & ate the concoction with a spritz of a lemon wedge. It was ok….not the best.
Wonder if Yu possibly used the large can of salmon instead of the 7oz can as recipe states, just noticed this myself ??♀️
Yes, you can double the recipe.
I just made these today for the first time and they were delicious! I froze some of the patties for future use. I love that they are so easy to make, inexpensive and so healthy! I love this website. Thank so much Jenny for sharing your recipes with us. I have made a number of the recipes offered on this site and none of them have been disappointing. Finally, a cooking site that doesn’t make me work like a Michelin chef. Great home cooking loaded with common sense. Can’t thank you enough! 🙂
I LOVE TO COOK
GREAT FOR LENT
great id! i’ll make them on Friday.
Just made the patties — sort of. I don’t know what it is about the impulse to change recipes. I thought I was the only one, but am discovering it’s not so.
I didn’t have the red pepper, so I used celery. Didn’t have whole wheat bread, so used Panko.
Added a small clove of garlic. Life is not life without garlic!
They held together just fine.
Tastes good, though I think I can improve on it.
I LOVE how easy and quick these are to make. I also love that you can vary them, according to what you have on hand.
What a great recipe to work with or work off of.
I used Old Bay in this receipt and it was wonderful.
Gloria, I make mine almost the same as yours, using celery, onion with Pano or store-bought bread crumbs. A little garlic, and salt and pepper. Served with lemon wedges.
How much Old Bay did you use?
I use garlic in just about everything
except fruit and sweets! A little goes a long way, sure enhances the flavors… I’ve started using lemon pepper on my meats and vegetables… It has alot of garlic in it, never new that, used to think it only contained lemon and pepper… Learn something new everyday ??♀️
I followed the recipe except I did not have fresh parsley so left it out and I added a Tablespoon of grated and minced carrot because I had it and I sprinkled some Montreal Steak Seasoning on the salmon. I used 2 eggs and a cup of fresh soft bread crumbs because I had a 14.5 oz can of salmon, however I did use 1/4 cup minced onion and 1/4 cup red bell pepper minced and cooked until they were soft.
I cooked the patties in butter and they were the best we have ever had.
To have red bell pepper on hand I clean and seed the pepper, make thin “sticks” and mince the pepper. I lay them on foil or wax paper and freeze then put in a zip-loc bag so I always have bell pepper when I need it and it cuts down on waste. I also cook my onion and pepper (and garlic) enough to soften for salmon patties.
Your recipes are easy to follow and very good!!!
I like to saute the vegs too, to soften and maximize flavor. I forgott myself and used breadcrumbs by mistake- They were good but would have held together better with fresh. My bad.
Hi Jenny im so hlad i found your program n Classes. I enjoy everyone. I love your kitchen. I do enjoy your sense of humor.
Pot pie ?? Awesome funny.
I am enjoying the polish dishes..
Looking forward to next class
Love n peace

Does anyone have the problem with them falling apart? I do treat them like they were newborn babies. But they are delicious, so it’s a trade off.
These folks make me laugh? They say “made this recipe only I added this and that and a little of this and left out the yada yada “
And they haven’t made your recipe at all! haha!!! Try the recipe guys ?
OMG I know. People are hilarious. They dont follow the recipe at all then criticize it.
Thank you so much ! You are the best
Thank you for your lessons making salomn turned out great along we itug h seasoned greanbeans
These peppers, not bell peppers, but hot peppers? Stupid stupid question I know, but I’m new at cooking. And I don’t care if I am pushing 70. Sorry. Not sorry. Thanks.
Sorry, not sorry – LOL!! ? This is not a stupid question, in fact I should have made the recipe clear, which I just did. It’s red bell pepper, the sweet kind, like green bell peppers, only red. You’re new at cooking at 70? That’s wonderful!!
Not ever too late to learn to cook. I am happy you are learning. I love to cook and bake. . . then give to my friends. Cooking is a great way for me to stay busy. I started learning to cook when I was 10 years old. I learned from the best- – my 2 grandmas and mom. My 11-year-old granddaughter has started to learn now. I love helping her with her journey. So proud of her!! I will be 72 on Feb. 27th!! All praise and glory be to God for being with me thru the years.
No mam your not stupid you have a valid question in a spoken way
I’m making out my grocery list as I find your interesting recipes. My mother, about 50 years ago, made salmon croquettes and had a white sauce on top. Are you familiar with that?
Thanks for you good common sense recipes.
I remember my mother making these but I don’t remember the recipe. I do know that the ‘bread crumbs’ were crushed saltine crackers and the white sauce was the Argo Cornstarch White Sauce recipe.I would like to find this recipe also. I am finding that my childhood memory of tastes are different from my adult tastes of the same recipe. 😉
That’s my moms recipe too. I totally forgot until you mentioned it. I don’t have the recipe either. If you find it please share.
Don’t know if this might be the one you are talking about.

Makes a delicious, creamy sauce for vegetables, casseroles, chicken or seafood.
I make my Salmon Patties somewhat like yours but never added the red pepper but will make that change. i make the white sauce like yours only i add green peas either frozen and thawed or steamed. Serve it over the patties. It makes a nice flavor and looks pretty.
David,
The Argo white sauce recipe most likely can still be found outside of the Argo cornstarch box.
Loretta Lynn made a ‘Shrimp Croquette’ recipe years ago w/ a white creamy sauce on top. You can find it online.
Loretta Lynn has a recipe online I found 30 yrs ago for I think shrimp croquettes. I would follow that & sub the salmon. Good luck!
Everything you make is appealing to the eye and I can almost smell what you make.
I really enjoy your cooking videos and especially your sense of humor. I would to subscribe to your channel but do not see any way to do it. Keep up the good work. You are a beautiful lady.

Love you Jenny!!!!!!!!! Your recipes are amaze!!!!!!!!!!
This comment is late.
Salmon patties , the whole bread can be used. The whole Salmon
Can be used ,because the process that the salmon and canning goes
Thru kills the toxins.
Awesome recipe
Jenny I love watching your videos…you put me in a good mood. You sure are one upbeat, sweet lady!
I was just wondering for how many days salmon patties (using egg) leftovers can be refrigerated. Thank you.
Hi Jenny, Love your channel – especially the Polish food. We’ve made so many of your recipes! I’m sure you’ve heard this over and over, but the salmon patties is an OUTSTANDING recipe. Beats my grandmother’s hands-down. I sometimes add a bit of jalapeño for heat; other than that; it’s perfection as-is. We make extra to have cold the next day. YUM and THANKS.
Just made these salmon patties tonight. My husband and I thought they were delicious!! Thank you Jenny for sharing this recipe with us. Although I didn’t have any red pepper to put into the salmon, they still turned out so very good. I’ll make these again! Again, thank you Jenny.
